Unlike carousel-type changers, JVC's design has three separate disc trays, each with its own open/close key for easy loading and changing of discs — you can even continue to play one while you change the other two! The XV-M50BK is versatile in other ways, too, able to play DVDs, CDs, and audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

In addition to the usual DVD playback effects like multi-speed scan and slow-motion, JVC included a Zoom function which enlarges the image to 2-times normal size for a close-up view. Both optical and coaxial digital outputs are included for routing Dolby Digital or DTS bitstreams to your compatible home theater receiver. If you don't have a surround sound speaker system yet, JVC's 3D-Phonic feature makes 2 speakers sound like more. The remote provides total control of the player and also conveniently operates most TVs.
